New York Mets co-ace Jacob deGrom is healing from his stress fracture and a return to the bump doesn’t look to be too far away.

When will Jacob deGrom be able to get back on the bump? No exact date has been set, but some good news, thankfully, has come in for the New York Mets and their fanbase: deGrom is on the right track with his recovery.

On Monday, the superstar hurler underwent an MRI on his injured shoulder. According to the Mets, deGrom is healing from the stress reaction and he’s been given the green light to take his rehab to the next level.

The Jacob deGrom update is fantastic news for the Mets

In what was supposed to be a bounce-back campaign for deGrom, things went south before Opening Day arrived when it was revealed he’d be shut down for at least a month. New York supporters have been playing the waiting game and they’ll need to do so a little longer.

However, this latest update from the club should bring plenty of optimism that deGrom won’t be out for much longer. Obviously, this team needs him back as soon as possible so they can keep making noise in the NL East.

Following Monday’s win over the St. Louis Cardinals, the Mets are 13-5 on the year and in first place of the division. It’s been a campaign to forget for the other clubs, as the Marlins are in second place with a lowly 7-8 record. Both the Phillies and Braves are 7-10, and the Nationals are 6-12.

Those four other squads have been rough to watch, but the same can’t be said for the Mets. They’ll need a healthy deGrom down the stretch to try and bring home a division title.
