Watch: Pitch at Nolan Arenado’s head leads to bench-clearing brawl in Cardinals-Mets
Tempers boiled over in the middle of the showdown between the New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon.
The hate between the New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals keeps on growing, as these two teams clearly don’t like one another. The Mets are sick and tired of getting hit, and now the Cardinals think they’re out for revenge.
Such was the case on Wednesday, as Nolan Arenado was nearly hit with some chin music while at the dish. The delivery from Yoan Lopez seen below was up and in, which Arenado took exception to. Next thing you knew, the benches were cleared and people were furious all over the diamond.
Cardinals brawl: Yoan Lopez buzzed Nolan Arenado
Shortly before this all went down over in St. Louis, J.D. Davis was hit by a pitch and had to leave the game for the Mets. Lopez decided to fire back and the Cardinals didn’t like this at all, understandably. Arenado was ejected from the action, while Lopez remained in the contest.
Cardinals fans have taken to Twitter to let the umps know how furious they are with this decision. At the time of the benches-clearing melee, St. Louis was holding a 10-5 advantage over the red-hot Mets.
With the two sides so upset, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see another player get plunked before this one is over. For fans hoping to see even more action between these two teams on Thursday, that won’t be happening, as this is the final game of the series. People all over St. Louis and Queens will have their calendars circled for the next meeting between the two clubs – that will come on May 16 at Citi Field.
