The Kansas City Chiefs have two late first-round picks but they’re willing to tack on their pick in 2023 too in order to trade up in the 2022 NFL Draft.

With Patrick Mahomes at the helm of the offense, the Kansas City Chiefs know that they’re in contention to win the Super Bowl. And after trading Tyreek Hill this offseason, that’s the type of mentality that general manager Brett Veach, head coach Andy Reid and the rest of the team’s brass are taking into the 2022 NFL Draft.

That is to say, Kansas City is looking to get aggressive in the 2022 draft.

After the Hill trade, the Chiefs have the No. 29 and 30 picks in the 2022 NFL Draft. However, they are looking to move up via trade to try and target their guy, assumedly a replacement for Hill. And according to NFL insider Jay Glazer, they’re willing to go into next year’s draft capital to do so.

NFL Draft rumors: Chiefs willing to give up 2023 first to trade up

Whether it’s for pass-rush help or, as mentioned, to try and find a wide receiver that can somewhat fill the void left by Hill’s departure, Kansas City is looking to give whatever it takes to move up.

Glazer’s point that the Chiefs will be picking at the end of next year’s first round too is valid. But at the same time, the general consensus has been that most people around the league view the 2023 draft class as much deeper and talented than the 2022 class. As such, that could work in KC’s favor if they’re truly willing to depart with a first in next year’s draft.

In the case of who they could be targeting, perhaps the most obvious candidate would be Alabama speedster Jameson Williams, whose wheels would fit what they lost with the Hill trade.

Regardless, it’ll be interesting to see if one of the league’s best teams is ready to make a splashy move on Thursday night in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
