Ravens trade Hollywood Brown to Cardinals in NFL Draft day stunner
By Nick Villano
The Baltimore Ravens traded away speedster wide receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown to the Arizona Cardinals for a first-round NFL Draft pick.
The NFL Draft has been wild so far, but the biggest stunner of the night came right after the Baltimore Ravens took Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton with the 14th-overall pick. Just minutes after the Ravens were widely praised for picking one of the most talented players in the draft to add to their defense, they traded one of their few offensive weapons. Marquise Brown was traded to the Arizona Cardinals for a first-round pick. The Cardinals also get a third-round pick in the deal.
Hollywood Brown is an incredibly talented receiver, and he is the former college teammate of Kyler Murray. They paired together for 1,318 yards receiver and 10 touchdowns, as Brown helped Murray win the Heisman Trophy.
Cardinals trade for Hollywood Brown, Ravens hit reset at wide receiver
This is a huge surprise since the Ravens are dealing with a dearth of wide receiver depth. They were dealing with a myriad of injuries to skill players last year, and they famously took running backs off the street just to fill out the depth chart.
Now, they go into the season with 2021 draft pick Rashod Bateman and Devan Duvernay as their options at wide receiver. It is a deep draft for wide receivers, but putting themselves in this position seems like a strange move for the Ravens.
However, one can’t hate on the Ravens for getting value for Brown. Most are probably surprised the Ravens got a first-round pick for him, even if they had to add a third-round pick to make it happen. They are likely even more surprised when the trade went down, but the Ravens can breathe easy now because A.J. Brown was just traded so nobody is really going to pay attention to their move.
