Davante Adams trade now complete, but did Packers get enough?
By Ethan Lee
The Green Bay Packers made headlines when they traded Davante Adams away. Did they use their draft picks that came from the trade wisely?
Following the headline-grabbing trade that sent Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders, many have wondered how the Green Bay Packers would use the draft picks that they got in return for Adams.
Now, as the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft has gotten underway, the Packers have finished using their relatively newly acquired draft capital as they ended up choosing two players with those picks.
Green Bay grabbed Quay Walker in the first round of the draft, surprising many, and then followed that up by trading up so they could choose Christian Watson.
As Ian Kenyon points out on Twitter, here’s how the draft capital was used to get the Packers to where they are right now.
Considering all they gave up by moving Adams, did Green Bay end up getting enough in return?
2022 NFL Draft: Green Bay Packers get Quay Walker and Christian Watson with draft picks from Davante Adams trade
It’s almost certainly too early to answer that question as this largely hinges on how good these two new Packers will pan out to be. Both Walker and Watson are pretty talented and have some unique potential, but how much of an impact can they have this coming season? How much of an impact will they have throughout their career?
Walker seems intriguing and was dominant with the Georgia Bulldogs. During his time in Athens, Walker recorded 137 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and five sacks. He played a notable part in helping the Bulldogs win a national title and it seems like he can be pretty good at the next level.
As for the Packers’ other player drafted, they got a pretty big receiving target. By giving up Adams, Green Bay lost a talented (but expensive) wide receiver. However, at 6-foot-5 and 208 pounds, Watson is a pretty big target to throw at. During his college career, Watson caught 104 passes for 2,134 yards and 14 touchdowns.
It’s worth wondering whether these guys got enough in return for Adams, but there’s the potential for that to be the case.
