It’s the best time of year, the NHL Playoffs are here and the quest for a Stanley Cup is underway.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are no strangers to the postseason, in fact they’ve tended to be staples in the playoffs over the course of Sidney Crosby’s career. Pittsburgh hasn’t missed the postseason since 2005-06, and was the last team before the Tampa Bay Lightning to win back-to-back Stanley Cups.

But times have changed.

Crosby’s in the twilight of his career and the Pens aren’t the force they once were this time of year. That’s the upside for the New York Rangers, who return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for just the second time in five years. New York is eight years removed from its last trip to the Stanley Cup, losing to the Los Angeles Kings in five games, but is poised to attempt another run in the Eastern Conference bracket. Time might have been tough lately for Rangers fans, but the young core of Alexis Lafrenière, Kaapo Kakko, and Artemi Panarin appears to be the group to restore some hockey glory to MSG.
