Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill spoke about the trade that sent wide receiver A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Tennessee Titans made news during the 2022 NFL Draft, and it all began in the first round. With all the talk about whether or not the San Francisco 49ers would trade Deebo Samuel, it was the Titans who opted to trade their top wideout, A.J. Brown, to the Philadelphia Eagles.
For those wondering how quarterback Ryan Tannehill felt about the trade that sent his star wide receiver to Philadelphia, he revealed what his thoughts were on the opening night of the NFL Draft when speaking with the media on Tuesday, May 3.

“I was shocked. When I first found out, I’m like, ‘This isn’t real, this isn’t happening, it’s a rumor,'” Tannehill said, h/t Nick Shook of Around the NFL. “And then, I talked to A.J. and found out it was real. I slept terrible that night and kept thinking it was just a bad dream, but that’s where we’re at.”
Brown was a holdout of the team’s voluntary workouts this past month, as he was seeking a new contract. The wide receiver revealed to ESPN’s Turron Davenport that he wanted to stay with the Titans, but the team did not offer him a deal near $20 million a season, instead offering $16 million annually.
With no deal getting done, the Titans agreed to terms on a trade that sent Brown to the Eagles in exchange for the No. 18 and 101 overall picks in the 2022 draft. Tennessee selected Arkansas wideout Treylon Burks with the acquired first-round pick, and will now slot in as one of the team’s top receiving options.
Brown agreed to a four-year, $100 million contract extension, with $57 million being guaranteed.
Much like many Titans fans, Tannehill was stunned that A.J. Brown is no longer on the team after just three seasons.
