By Ethan Lee
Mia Davidson has been incredible for the Mississippi State softball team and she holds a remarkable home run record because of it.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs have a true college softball legend playing and setting all sorts of records for them. Mia Davidson has been remarkable throughout the entirety of her college career and she’s leaving quite the legacy in Starkville, Mississippi.
Now in her final season with the Mississippi State softball program, Davidson has accomplished quite a bit throughout her career in Starkville. Saturday afternoon, Davidson became the first player the SEC has ever seen hit 90 home runs in a career.
That’s including both college baseball and college softball.
Mississippi State softball: Mia Davidson sets ridiculous SEC home run record
Davidson is now the first player in the history of the SEC to hit 90 home runs. Again, that’s for both baseball and softball. Given the long history of excellence for the SEC in both sports, that accomplishment is absolutely incredible.
In baseball, the closest players to her are LSU Tigers legends Eddy Furniss and Brad Cresse with 80 and 76 respectively. As for SEC college softball players? Well, the players closest to her would be Lauren Haeger, who had 71 in her career with the Florida Gators, and Alex Hugo, who hit 71 in her career that was split between the Kansas Jayhawks and Georgia Bulldogs.
In all of NCAA softball history, Davidson is currently tied for fifth in career home runs alongside Stacey Nuveman, who played for the UCLA Bruins from 1997 through 2002. Jocelyn Alo currently holds the record for Oklahoma Sooners with 112 home runs so far. Given how Alo and the Sooners are performing, expect that total to continue to climb.
