Zhilei Zhang obliterates Scott Alexander in round 1 (Video)
Heavyweight Zhilei Zhang made it a quick but memorable night on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez vs. Dmitry Bivol, as he knocked out Scott Alexander.
The heavyweight undercard between Zhilei Zhang and Scott Alexander didn’t light up the boxing roster of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Dmitry Bivol event, but it did produce a visually pleasing knockout.
Zhang (24-0-1, 19 KOs) of China had to make do with Alexander as a replacement opponent. He was supposed to fight hot prospect Filip Hrgovic, but Hrgovic pulled out during fight week because his father passed away.
Alexander (16-5-2, 8 KOs) got the short-notice assignment. He didn’t have the best record but showed a sturdy chin, having never been knocked out. Zhang changed all that with one punch.

In front of a building fanbase at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV, Zhang found a home for his left cross on Alexander’s chin. Zhang’s Southpaw stance and long reach allowed the 6-foot-6 Zhang to find Alexander’s chin at will.
With a little over a minute remaining in round 1, Zhang smashed Alexander’s face with another straight left that flattened Alexander. The referee didn’t bother to count as Alexander was knocked senseless.
It goes down as a KO for Zhang at the 1:54 mark. Alexander didn’t stand a chance, but Zhang did look strong and stopped a man who hadn’t been stopped before.
