Blue Jays: Umpire sounded genuinely thrilled to eject Charlie Montoyo

Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo was ejected on Tuesday night in a road contest against the Yankees. Home plate umpire Lance Barrett did not stutter.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Barrett and the umpires met to discuss what to do in regards to then-pitcher Yimi Garcia, who hit Josh Donaldson with a pitch.

Donaldson acknowledged after the game he had some words with Blue Jays catcher Tyler Heineman, though the pair have no history so it’s unknown if that had anything to do with Donaldson getting plunked.

After a long discussion, Barrett ejected Garcia, setting a precedent that there was to be no funny business or retribution from the Yankees. Garcia was fuming, while Montoyo and the Jays bench were rightly confused.

Montoyo wasn’t thrown out this time around, but did make his dissent heard from the dugout when the Yankees threw up and in to Bo Bichette later in the game.

It turns out one bad decision does not mean another is soon on the horizon. Either Barrett realized his mistake and opted not to make another one, or simply doesn’t equate actually plunking a player with a pitch to buzzing him up and in.

Either way, Montoyo was angry, as was the Jays dugout. After a short protest, Montoyo was tossed, prompting him to come out of the dugout and take an in-person approach with his argument.

Barrett, who tossed Montoyo before he could reach the playing field, appeared to say “boom, go ya,” when ejecting the Jays manager.

Was he…just looking for a fight?
