Raiders organization reportedly imploding, per former employees
By John Buhler
The Las Vegas Raiders are in the midst of great organizational chaos internally once again.
After a mass exodus of former employees, the Las Vegas Raiders find themselves in hot water.
Even after moving from Oakland to Las Vegas, the Raiders continue to be one of the most dysfunctional franchises in the NFL. Not even a year since Jon Gruden resigned as head coach amid his email scandal are the Silver and Black in the news for all the wrong reasons. This has everything to do with owner Mark Davis and the franchise’s many antiquated business practices.
The New York Times reported “The Las Vegas Raiders have been rocked by a mass exodus of front office leaders amid financial irregularities and dire management blunders like overpaying taxes and underpaying certain employees for years.”
The latest concern for Vegas involves the departure of former team president, Dan Ventrelle.
Las Vegas Raiders are in the midst of major organizational chaos … again
Much has been made about Davis creating a hostile work environment. The other components to this expose put together by The New York Times include quirky finances, whether that is overpaying on taxes or not paying employees enough money, the rampant use of settlements and non-disclosure agreements when a former employee is let go, and a lack of institutional control.
Many former team employees spoke with The New York Times on the condition of anonymity. Some of the things have been revealed include not paying power bills on time, not paying cheerleaders minimum wage, not having control of the accounting system, as “everything was still very much paper, files, boxes, warehouses.” The Silver and Black are a second-generation family business.
Ultimately, former employees leaving in droves continues to paint the Raiders in a bad light. While one would have thought going to a new media market with a brand new stadium and facilities would get Vegas in line, this has long been the rebel franchise of the NFL. The Raiders are not going anywhere, but it remains to be seen how much longer Davis will be able to own this team.
Las Vegas may have been a playoff team a season ago, but they continue to swim in utter chaos.
