Houston furniture salesman Mattress Mack could make a ton of money off of a couple bets on the Houston Astros this season.

Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale is beloved in and around Houston for his charitable efforts and the way he’s given back to the community over the years (especially with his responses to recent Hurricanes), but the man has been a savvy business owner for a long time.

He’s also become pretty famous with folks online with the way he’s been partaking in sports gambling in recent years. Sometimes he wins a lot of money, sometimes he loses a lot.

Anytime he has a bet go viral, folks pay attention.

Now, Mattress Mack is trying to make a historic amount of money off of betting that the Houston Astros will win the World Series this year.

And it looks like McIngvale might have a shot at making a lot of money this year.

But that kinda depends on if the Astros win it all this year. Of course, there’s a very good chance that he’s going to make some major money off of furniture sales leading up to the World Series.

Well, as Dan Solomon of Texas Monthly writes in a wonderful article, part of the reason is to help make sure that he’s making money regarding some pretty big promotions that he does to sell furniture.

One of his prominent promotions that he’s done over the years involves customers spending a certain amount of money prior to a big game. If a particular team wins that game, customers will get their money back (and they get to keep that really nice furniture they just bought).

To help make sure he keeps making money, McIngvale will gamble enough to at least cover whatever amount it is he might lose as part of his promotions.
