The Toronto Maple Leafs announced winger Mitch Marner was a victim of a carjacking on May 16.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are coming off of a first-round exit in the Stanley Cup Playoffs after losing 2-1 to the defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 7 this past Saturday. Days later, the team revealed some news regarding one of their star players.

On Tuesday, the team’s public relations department tweeted out that winger Mitch Marner was the victim of a carjacking in Etobicoke on May 16. Fortunately, the team announced that Marner was unharmed in the incident.

The Maple Leafs implored fans to call Toronto Police Services if they have an information, before saying that they will not comment on the situation any further.

Maple Leafs: Mitch Marner unharmed in carjacking incident

Joe Warmington of the Toronto Sun reported that Marner was the man who had their Range Rover robbed by three thieves, who were carrying two handguns and a knife. Additionally, a source told the Toronto Sun that the suspects “approached wearing masks and said they wanted the vehicle. Mitch said, ‘go ahead and take it.'”

Marner is coming off of a career best season with the Maple Leafs. Through 72 games played, the winger and former 2015 fourth-overall pick recorded 35 goals and 62 assists, both of which are career-highs.

After going the previous two playoff trips without a goal scored, Marner broke the drought with two goals in the opening round against Tampa Bay. Marner also recorded six assists in the seven-game series.

The carjacking incident is a terrifying ordeal, but thankfully Marner is okay.
