Nelson Cruz trade rumors: Milwaukee Brewers

Heading into this season, the only National League team Nelson Cruz had ever played for was the Milwaukee Brewers all the way back in 2005. He appeared in just eight games for the club, hitting one double and not much else before being flipped to the Texas Rangers where his offensive production took off.

Here we are, 17 years later, and there’s a good possibility of Cruz making a triumphant return to the Brew Crew. The Brewers were reportedly interested in trading for him at last year’s deadline and then were considering signing him when he reached free agency earlier this year.

The Brewers find themselves 2.5 games above the Cardinals in the NL Central and could feasibly add Cruz to their lineup as additional offensive firepower once we get closer to the deadline. As things currently stand, the Brewers are giving Rowdy Tellez and Christian Yelich the majority of the at-bats at designated hitter while Andrew McCutchen is on the COVID-IL. Once McCutchen returns, he could continue to see some time at DH while making regular appearances in the corner outfield. Tellez would move back to first base full-time and Cruz could have the DH spot all to himself.
