2022 NBA Draft Lottery: Who is representing each team?
By John Buhler
Here are all the people representing each team at the 2022 NBA Draft Lottery up in Chicago.
The 2022 NBA Draft Lottery will be underway in earnest on Tuesday night live from Chicago.
This television spectacular involving ping-pong balls takes place in The Windy City every year. While only a handful of teams are left in the NBA playoffs when this event takes place, it is an especially critical night for franchises that absolutely stink. With a bit of luck on their side, a team can get the right to pick a player who can drag a bottom-feeder out of the doldrums in due time.
Here is who will be representing each team at the NBA Draft Lottery on Tuesday night in Chicago.
NBA Draft Lottery 2022: Team representatives
- Charlotte Hornets: P.J. Washington (player)
- Cleveland Cavaliers: Anderson Varejão (team ambassador)
- Detroit Pistons: Richard Hamilton (Pistons legend)
- Houston Rockets: Rafael Stone (general manager)
- Indiana Pacers: Kelly Krauskopf (assistant general manager)
- New Orleans Pelicans: Swin Cash-Canal (vice president, basketball operations)
- New York Knicks: William Wesley (executive vice president, senior basketball advisor)
- Oklahoma City Thunder: Nick Collison (Thunder legend)
- Orlando Magic: Jeff Weltman (president of basketball operations)
- Portland Trail Blazers: Damian Lillard (player)

As it is every year, the cast of characters at the draft lottery includes current players, team legends, team executives and other goodwill ambassadors of the franchises taking part in it. There are a few interesting tidbits heading into Tuesday’s draft lottery. Only 13 teams are represented here, as the Oklahoma City Thunder have two top-14 picks with one coming from the LA Clippers.
As for where the Los Angeles Lakers are at, their lottery pick will go to either the Memphis Grizzlies or the New Orleans Pelicans, both of whom made the Western Conference Playoffs. If it is a top-10 pick, it goes to New Orleans, which is why Swin Cash-Canal is there to represent her franchise and not anybody from the Grizzles’ side of things. This draft pick has top-eight odds.
The three teams with the best shot at winning the draft lottery are the Houston Rockets, the Orlando Magic and the Detroit Pistons, all with a 14-percent chance of winning it. Oklahoma City technically does when you combine the Thunder’s 12.5-percent chance plus the 1.5-percent chance they are getting from the pick by way of the Clippers. Look for one of these teams to win.
The fate of the basketball world will once again be left to chance by those sacred ping-pong balls.
