Jackson State coach Deion Sanders called Nick Saban a liar for insinuating that they paid top recruit Travis Hunter to attend their school.

Sanders has built a great culture at Jackson State — an HBCU — in just over a season in charge. Because of this, and due to the fact he’s a Pro Football Hall of Famer and one of the more outspoken former players in the sport, he’s succeeded in recruiting as well.

The NIL era opens up a whole can of worms around college football. Sanders’ biggest recruiting win thus far has been landing top recruit Travis Hunter, who was favored to attend one of the larger, Power 5 schools instead. Yet, he chose little ol’ Jackson State.

Saban believes money was involved and stated as much in a public comment.

“Jackson State paid a guy $1 million last year who was a really good Division I player to come to their school,” said Saban. “It was in the paper, and they bragged about it. No one did anything about it.”

Sanders came out and said that’s a flat-out lie on Wednesday night. He doubled down, calling Saban a liar and stating that Hunter chose Jackson State on his own volition.

Hunter also tweeted a sarcastic comment in response, as well, saying that his mom and siblings still live in the same apartment he was raised in. Had he received that $1 million, don’t you think he would’ve spent some of that money on his family’s living situation?

It’s just another offseason in the NIL era of college football.
