The St. Louis Cardinals are calling up No. 2 prospect Nolan Gorman and will make his debut on May 20 vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The St. Louis Cardinals are shuffling up their infield after the team sent shortstop Paul DeJong down to Triple A after a rough start to the season. Now, they are set to call up one of their prized prospects to shore up the middle of their infield.

St. Louis announced that they have called up second-overall prospect Nolan Gorman, along with No. 3 prospect Matthew Liberatore. Katie Woo of The Athletic tweeted out that Gorman will be making his debut on May 20 against the Pittsburgh Pirates starting at second base.

For Cardinals fans wondering if this will only be for a brief stint in the majors for Gorman, that is not the case. Woo tweeted out shortly afterward that Gorman at second and Tommy Edman at shortstop will be the “predominant starting middle infielders for the Cardinals moving forward.”

Gorman has been with the Cardinals organization since 2018 when he was selected with the 19th overall pick of the MLB Entry Draft. He also holds the distinction of being the first player born in the 2000s to be drafted by an MLB team.

The infielder was called up to Triple-A last season, where he played for 76 games, batting .274 and hitting 14 home runs and 48 RBI.

Gorman played in 31 games for the Memphis Redbirds this season, where he slashed .308/.367/.677 while recording 15 home runs, 23 RBI, 31 runs and 41 hits.

Cardinals fans, the May 20 game against Pittsburgh begins at 6:35 p.m. ET. As for Liberatore, he will be making his first MLB start on Saturday, May 21.
