Nolan Gorman’s family was overcome with emotion after he recorded his first-ever hit with the St. Louis Cardinals in his debut.
Following the St. Louis Cardinals’ loss to the New York Mets on May 19, the team announced that they were calling up second-overall prospect Nolan Gorman to play second base. Not only that, but he would make his official MLB debut on Friday, May 20 in the team’s road game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In his very first at-bat in the top of the second inning, Gorman hit a single to right field on an 86.8-mph changeup thrown by Zach Thompson for his first career MLB hit.
Gorman’s family was in attendance at PNC Park in Pittsburgh to watch his debut, and they were overcome with emotion after watching him record his first hit as a Cardinal.

Nolan Gorman’s family overcome with emotion after he records first career hit for Cardinals
What a great, emotional moment, as Gorman’s family got to see his hard work resulted in him receiving a call up from the minors and to get his first hit in his very first at-bat in the majors.
Gorman started off the 2022 season with the Triple A Memphis Redbirds. In 34 games, Gorman slashed .308/.367/.677 while recording 15 home runs, 23 RBI, 31 runs scored and 41 hits.
Remember, this will not be the only debut for a Cardinals player this series. On Saturday, May 21, No. 3 prospect Matthew Liberatore takes the mound for his first career MLB start.
