The owners of two first-round selections in this year’s draft, the Packers used one of them to take Georgia linebacker Quay Walker. A fantastic athlete who was, obviously, part of a historically good Bulldogs defense that went on to win the program’s first national championship since 1980 should be a great fit to answer the issues at the position Green Bay has consistently faced.

With Walker entering the fray, the expectation should be that he and De’Vondre Campbell will man the two inside linebacker position in the team’s 3-4 base defense. But as a result of that, it could lead to someone who fills up the depth chart ultimately getting pushed out of the mix and, eventually, off the roster.

For my money, the odd man out is going to be Ty Summers. A seventh-round pick in the 2019 draft, Summers hasn’t figured too heavily into the defensive mix when the unit is healthy. He’s been a factor on special teams but, with added depth, how valuable is that to the Packers?

Per Over the Cap, Green Bay could save just shy of $1 million if they were to designate Summers as a post-June 1 cut. While that may not seem like a ton of money, this is a team that could use every penny to shore up some other weaknesses on the roster. Now that Walker is in the building, Summers could ultimately find himself being expendable.
