Tigers: Did Miguel Cabrera recruit Bartolo Colon to Detroit?

Bartolo Colon is working towards a return to MLB, and Miguel Cabrera may have tried to recruit him to the Detroit Tigers.

Bartolo Colon last pitched in MLB back in 2018 when he was a member of the Texas Rangers. Even though he has been out of the league for so long, Colon is trying to get back in.

A report from Hector Gomez of Z101 Digital indicated that Colon is working out and hoping to receive an offer from the New York Mets. That report was shared on MLB on Fox’s Instagram account.

Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera commented on the post, saying “in Detroit we have 6 starters injured.”

Cabrera is not lying, as Eduardo Rodriguez, Matt Manning, Casey Mize, Tyler Mattison, Spencer Turnbull, Michael Pineda and Tanner Kohlhepp are all on the injured list as of this writing.

The Mets have injury issues of their own. Jacob deGrom is still sidelined with a right scapula injury and is not set to return until late June/early July. Recently, Max Scherzer left his start due to left side discomfort. It was then revealed that Scherzer would be sidelined six-to-eight weeks due to an oblique strain.

Colon played for the Mets from 2014-16, where he recorded a cumulative 3.90 ERA and 1.225 WHIP while posting a 44-34 record through 98 games (95 starts).

In his last season with the Rangers, Colon posted a 5.78 ERA, a 1.346 WHIP and 81 strikeouts over 146.1 innings.

It will remain to be seen if Colon does receive an offer to return to MLB, but Cabrera just threw it out there for all of Instagram to see that the Tigers could be in use of his services.
