2) MLB rumors: New York Mets will remain in the market for Luis Castillo until he is traded

Before the New York Mets eventually landed Chris Bassitt in a trade with the Oakland Athletics, Castillo was a name often mentioned in MLB rumors about how they would go about improving their rotation. Minus Jacob deGrom all season and now without Max Scherzer, the need to swing a deal for a starting pitcher has returned.

The Mets are supposed to get deGrom and Scherzer back sometime around the All-Star Break. They have a few internal options to go with in the meantime but should already be on the prowl for making a deal. We know they have already scouted Castillo’s teammate Tyler Mahle. We would have to assume the thought of trading for Castillo has come up as well.

This is a season where the Mets may be willing to go further than any team has gone before to win it all. There are few prospects off-limits. Only Francisco Alvarez may have the untouchable label.

To land Castillo, the Mets wouldn’t need to even give up their number one prospect. The front office in Flushing has been careful about not depleting their farm system too much in order to get better. They could also have an advantage of a willingness to take on a bad contract as well. Pair Castillo with Mike Moustakas and the Mets may be able to add two pieces to their roster.
