The Philadelphia 76ers see Tyrese Maxey as a building block for them to use going forward.

While someone may put together a compelling trade package for Tyrese Maxey this offseason, the Philadelphia 76ers view him as “close to untouchable” in a summer blockbuster deal of sorts.

Kyle Neubeck of the Philly Voice reported the 76ers are almost certainly not going to part ways with Maxey at this point in time. This does not necessarily mean that the 76ers are done “star-hunting” so to speak, but Daryl Morey seems to believe Maxey is part of their path towards a championship going forward. Maxey will turns 22 in November and is on the rise.

Of course, the 76ers would part ways with their emerging star guard “if the right opportunity comes up”, but it would have to be as part of a package for a player of Joel Embiid’s or James Harden’s caliber coming Philadelphia’s way in return.

Philadelphia 76ers view Tyrese Maxey as an asset to build a champion around

There is great news and bad news with how the 76ers currently view Maxey. The great news is they might have found a player who can raise their finite ceiling and get this team back to the NBA Finals for the first time in over two decades. As far as the downside is concerned, the 76ers may value Maxey too much and may see their championship window close all together if he tapers off.

With Embiid at his apex and Harden trending out of his prime, the 76ers need for Maxey to continue to grow in his third and fourth year out of Kentucky. If he can become the third, or quite possibly the second, major player in the 76ers’ big three, Philadelphia can still win the Eastern Conference at some point. Then again, they could really use a player like Jimmy Butler right now.

For the 76ers to be the best team in the Eastern Conference as early as next year, Embiid will need another MVP-caliber season, as well as Maxey ascending enough to offset Harden’s impending decline. Together, this trio may have a championship in them. Then again, Philadelphia may have to hit the reset button if the 76ers come up short in the Eastern Conference Playoffs next spring.

One thing is certain: Maxey is not about to sneak up on anybody after his breakout NBA season.
