Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson spoke on Josh Donaldson’s one game suspension after calling him “Jackie [Robinson].”

On Monday, New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson received a one game suspension for his comments towards Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson. Following their May 21 game, Anderson revealed that Donaldson had called him “Jackie [Robinson].” Donaldson confirmed the “Jackie” comments, but said it was in reference to Anderson saying he felt like “today’s Jackie Robinson” in a 2019 Sports Illustrated interview.

Anderson spoke about Donaldson’s suspension, saying that he didn’t have an opinion on it. He did say that Donaldson did call him “Jackie” back in 2019, but said that he didn’t like it then. That refutes Donaldson’s comments this past Saturday, saying that it was “an inside joke” between the two.

Anderson continued to talk about the incident in 2019, saying he told Donaldson “I won’t speak to you, you won’t speak to me, if that’s how you’re going to refer to me.”

He then said that he has moved on from the incident but said he’s “not looking for no friendship or relationship from that behalf.”

Various members of the White Sox condemned the comments made by Donaldson, including Yasmani Grandal and Joe Kelly. Yankees star outfielder Aaron Judge spoke on Donaldson’s comments recently, saying “joke or not, I just don’t think it’s the right thing to do there.”

MLB senior vice president of on-field operations Michael Hill called Donaldson’s comments “disrespectful and in poor judgment,” and said that it played a role in the benches clearing in the aforementioned Saturday game.

Donaldson is appealing the suspension.
