Cardinals rumors: Brandon Drury is the Reds bench player to target

The Cardinals could always go for the trifecta and add a starter, reliever, and a bench piece to their roster from within the division. From the Reds, Brandon Drury could be the guy to fit in as a second-stringer on their club.

Don’t attempt to adjust your dial if you’re sensing a pattern with these trades. Drury is another once-promising player who is on the mend and trying to rebuild his stock. At just 29-years-old, Drury is playing his way back into the good graces of major league general managers. Through his first 135 plate appearances, Drury has hit .244/.326/.496 for the lowly Reds. He has 7 early home runs and 22 RBI to go along with only 29 total hits.

Drury was able to start this journey last year as a bench member of the New York Mets where he batted .274/.307/.476 in only 88 trips to the plate. Versatile on defense, he has spent this season playing a lot of third base and second base for the Reds. The Cardinals, regardless of the health of their starters, could view Drury as a player to add to give them some added depth at practically any spot on the field.

As nice as it may have been for the Reds to sign Drury and get this much out of him in the early part of 2022, they shouldn’t balk at the idea of trading him within the division. He probably won’t be around next season anyway. They should see if they can turn him into someone with a few more years of control.
