MJF no-shows AEW Fan Fest, status for Double or Nothing in question
By Scott Rogust
MJF has reportedly no-showed an AEW Fan Fest event that he was scheduled to appear at, and has booked a flight out of Las Vegas the night before Double or Nothing.
All Elite Wrestling is hosting their Double or Nothing pay-per-view event on Sunday, May 29, and it features 13 matches on the card. Well, one of the matches appears to be in doubt and it involves the status of a high-profile wrestler on the AEW roster.
Maxwell Jacob Friedman, aka MJF, was scheduled to appear at a Fan Fest event on Saturday, but the wrestler no-showed. According to Kiley Fuller of Bodyslam.net, security told fans who purchased tickets to meet MJF that he was not appearing and that he was not answering his phone.
Things have escalated, as Fightful Select (subscription required) is reporting that while MJF is “fine physically,” there was a flight booked for him out of Las Vegas for late Saturday night. That now leaves his status for Double or Nothing in serious doubt, as Fightful Select says that it is unknown if he will be boarding the flight.
MJF no-shows AEW Fan Fest, books flight out of Las Vegas
Mike Johnson of PWInsider backs up Fightful’s report regarding the flight, saying it is unknown if MJF will actually get on the flight.
Johnson also reports that AEW offered refunds or the opportunity to meet other wrestlers at the Fan Fest event for those who purchased tickets to meet MJF.
Fightful Select further reports that while AEW is not commenting on the situation, a source within the company says that communications between the company and MJF “had reached an all-time low.”
The performer has been quite vocal about his desire to get a new contract, as he has teased on many media platforms that he becomes a free agent in 2024.
MJF is scheduled to have one of the big matches on the pay-per-view show, as he is taking on Wardlow. It is the culmination of a long storyline, in which Wardlow is trying to get out of his contract with MJF.
UPDATE: MJF did not board the reported flight out of Las Vegas, as he made his way to the ring in the opening match of Double or Nothing against Wardlow. There’s visual proof of it too!
MJF lost the match after receiving 10 powerbombs from Wardlow. As a result, the storyline has seemingly reached its end, as Wardlow got out of his contract with MJF and received a deal with AEW.
As for MJF, he was carted off wearing a neck brace and an oxygen mask.
What is next for MJF remains to be seen, but we will continue to update you when details are provided.
