Mike Breen tests positive for COVID-19, won’t call Game 7
By Scott Rogust
ESPN NBA play-by-play commentator Mike Breen will not be calling Game 7 between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat after testing positive for COVID-19.
Sunday, May 29 is a huge night for the NBA, as the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat face off in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The winner will then go on to face the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals. Game 7 will sound a bit different for those who have listened to the entire series between Boston and Miami.
According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, ESPN NBA play-by-play commentator Mike Breen will not be on the call for Game 7 after testing positive for COVID-19. Breen is “feeling fine,” per Marchand, and the network hopes that he can return for Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday, June 2.
Mark Jones will fill in for Breen for Game 7.

Game 7 will feel different without Breen yelling “bang” after a made shot by a player. But, the most important thing is that Breen is feeling okay.
The Heat rebounded in a huge way this past Friday, as they avoided elimination by winning 111-103 to tie the series at three games apiece. Star Jimmy Butler played a huge role in that, as he scored 47 points in the victory.
Boston will have to play the role of road warriors for Game 7, but they are 2-1 when playing inside FTX Arena in Miami.
Tipoff time for Game 7 will be at 8:30 p.m. ET.
