The New York Mets completed the sweep against the Philadelphia Phillies, and they did so in walk-off fashion on Sunday Night Baseball.

There was a lot going on on Sunday, May 29. There was Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat. There was the All Elite Wrestling pay-per-view event, Double or Nothing. But, there was also a Sunday Night Baseball game between the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies.

New York had the chance to complete the sweep against Philadelphia, but they had to do so in dramatic fashion. In the 10th inning, the Mets won 5-4 in walk-off fashion.

Here are three clutch moments that led up to the victory on Sunday night.

3. Nick Plummer’s game-tying HR

The Mets trailed 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning, and the first batter to the plate was rookie Nick Plummer. He did not have to wait long, as he saw the first pitch thrown by Phillies reliever Corey Knebel and sent it deep to the right field stands of Citi Field to tie the game.

This was also Plummer’s first career hit. Plummer is now the first Met to record a home run as their first career hit since Jeremy Hefner did so back in 2012. Ironically, it also took place on May 29.

2. Eduardo Escobar snow cone catch in extras

With the game sent to extra innings, that meant that each team hitting had an automatic runner at second. New York reliever Edwin Diaz had to face off against Philadelphia slugger Nick Schwarber. On the fourth pitch, Schwarber hit a foul ball towards the dugout near. Mets third baseman chased after it, reached over the railing and managed to make the snow cone catch to secure the out.

This would not be the last time that Escobar played the hero on Sunday night.

1. Eduardo Escobar’s game-winning single

With runners on first and second with one out, Escobar stepped up to the plate and hit a single off Knebel to right field, which bounced out of the reach of Odubel Herrera. That allowed Starling Marte to score and secure the 5-4 win.

It was a great night for the Mets. Not much so for the Phillies, who were three outs away from winning 4-3.
