3 ways the Knicks can trade up in 2022 NBA Draft for Jaden Ivey
By Ian Levy
2. Knicks trade with the Pistons to move up to No. 5
The Pistons landed in a tough spot, falling outside the top three and a chance to nab the transformational big man who could really form a long-term foundation with Cade Cunningham. Depending on what the Kings do with their pick, the Pistons could be choosing between Ivey (who is just ball-dominant enough to not look like a great fit with Cunningham), the mystery box that is Shaedon Sharpe, a wing scorer like A.J. Griffin or gambling on a second-tier big man or big wing like Jalen Duren, Keegan Murray or Jeremy Sochan.
They may prefer to trade back, take what they can get at No. 11 and then see what the NBA Draft brings them next season. A similar package to what was proposed for the Pacers might work, adding in a future pick and a fringier young player like Grimes or Miles McBride. The Pistons aren’t likely to be interested in Randle or any of the Knicks veterans but could potentially get creative with win-now assets like Kelly Olynyk and Cory Joseph to try and pull Obi Toppin or Immanuel Quickley into the deal.
