Cristian Javier, Houston Astros

Not the likeliest of trade partners, but it would be interesting to see the Cardinals kick the tires on Houston Astros’ Cristian Javier.

The 25-year-old righty is 3-2 this season in six games started. He has pitched in 10 games overall this season with a 2.41 ERA. He has 52 strikeouts over 41 innings tossed.

He primarily uses a four-seam fastball followed by a slider, curveball, and a changeup. The youngster is not a typical Cardinals type of pitcher as he’s more of a flyball pitcher. Considering this, the Cardinals do have Gold Glove-caliber defenders in the outfield including Tyler O’Neill and Harrison Bader.

Javier could turn into a project for pitching coach Mike Maddux to see if Javier would benefit from using his offspeed pitches more to induce groundball hitting.

It would definitely be interesting to see the Cardinals go after a young arm like Javier as both sides could benefit greatly.
