Watch Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler speak perfectly on LIV Golf departures
The first LIV Golf tournament is this weekend, and of course, the likes of Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Scottie Scheffler perfectly weighed in their thoughts.
This week, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Scottie Scheffler have all weighed in on the LIV Golf inaugural event, and their responses are downright perfect.
These three guys are huge PGA Tour advocates and openly talk about why they love where they are. They aren’t afraid to speak their mind, and this week it was vital for them to do just that.
Even without PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan providing any public comments this week, three of his top players have given enough to make everyone understand why they’re not taking the money.
Thomas put it perfectly that these golfers’ decisions are their own and that he doesn’t dislike them for playing on the LIV Golf Tour. He was really methodical in his answer, and Thomas put it in the best way possible.
No one should hate these guys because they decided for themselves and their families. People can choose what they want in this day and age, and it doesn’t automatically mean it’s not okay. People can disagree, and as Thomas put it, should help those who don’t get that understand the circumstances better.
McIlroy was a little more blunt about it and talked about how making decisions to chase big money doesn’t always end how they want. He stuck with his argument that the PGA Tour has the best players globally, and he wants to compete with them.
He flat out said, picking things purely for money doesn’t go how people plan it to, and that is also a great way to put this weird situation. McIlroy was similar to Thomas in supporting these guys in making their own decisions, but he is 100% dedicated to the PGA Tour, and he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Scheffler was short with his comment on it, claiming he didn’t notice that guys were missing outside Dustin Johnson. That comment also highlights the situation because these guys are so focused on their games. Not everyone has time to care about whether another professional golfer is playing that week or not.
The LIV Golf is here, and it’s time to see what they have in store for professional golf. Who knows, this could provide a lot of pro golfers who are waiting for shots at the PGA Tour a chance to change their lives, but it’s also okay for those already on Tour to stay there. It’s all a choice if we boil it down to one statement, and it’s something that shouldn’t make anyone hate one Tour or the other.
