How to watch LIV Golf debut London event: Start time, live stream, field, format
The first ever LIV Golf event begins on Thursday, and this is a one-stop shop for everything to know about the inaugural tournament.
LIV Golf Tour is finally here, and the first event is this weekend as the controversial tour continues to shock the golf world.
However, like most golf folk out there, we are interested in seeing how this rival tour will compete against the PGA Tour. How will it work, is it the same format, length, and how much money will the purses be?
There are so many questions about this Tour and event, but here is a little more information on the start time, the format, who headlines the Tour and how we can all watch it.
This event is the first of seven regular season tournaments LIV Golf will have, and then there will be a final eighth tournament that crowns the champions.
LIV Golf London Event Start Time and Format
LIV Golf will play 54-hole events, which means it’ll be three days instead of four-day ones.
For the first event, the start time will be at 2 p.m. local time and 9 a.m. ET as all the events will be shot gun starts.
This kind of start means each group begins their rounds at a different spot on the golf course, and everyone plays simultaneously.
Having a shotgun start will help keep round times from getting too long.
How to Live Stream the LIV Golf London Event
LIV Golf won’t be on television yet, but fans who would like to tune into the event can watch it on LIV Golf’s website, on YouTube, and Facebook.
Arlo White will be the head play-by-play guy in the booth, and he will have former Golf Channel legend Jerry Folts and pro golfer Dom Boulet with him.
Reports suggest that there will also be 60 microphones on course for fans to hear all the sounds. Even some players and caddies will wear microphones to give a more immersive experience.
These extra things make it a little more intriguing to watch and see how it goes. Without them being on television, there will be a lot more allowed to get said on air, but only time will tell if they keep it clean or not.
The LIV Golf London Field
There will be 48 players at Centurion Club in London, divided into 12 four-person teams. No cuts will get made as all 48 players will receive payment.
There is a $25 million purse, with individual and team compensations. $20 million make up the individual purse, with the $5 million making up for how the teams get paid.
Individually, the first place will take home $4 million, and the 48th place will take home $120,000 — decent payouts if you ask us.
Team-wise, the top three teams divide the $5 million — first place takes home $3 million, second place takes home $1.5 million and third place gets $500,000.
The players headlining this event are Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood, Louis Oosthuizen, Ian Poulter, and Phil Mickelson.
They will be captains of six of the teams, and the rest of the teams got picked this past weekend.
Here are all 12 teams and their names.
Which team will you pick to win the inaugural LIV Golf event?
Only time will tell how this rival tour will go for Greg Norman and the rest of those backing it, so buckle your seatbelt and enjoy the ride!
After the London event, LIV Golf will have its first U.S. event in Portland from June 30-July 2.
