Tyreek Hill made last-ditch pitch to Andy Reid to stay with Chiefs

During the debut episode of his podcast, receiver Tyreek Hill claims that he made a late pitch to Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid to remain with the team.

Wide receiver transactions have dominated the NFL offseason, with some of the top names in the game moving onto other teams. One of those pass-catchers was Tyreek Hill, who was traded from the Kansas City Chiefs to the Miami Dolphins.

This week, Hill dropped the debut episode of his podcast, “It Needed to be Said,” where he touched on a variety of topics. In said episode, Hill claimed that he made a late pitch to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid to keep him on the team.

“”I tried my best,” Hill said, h/t ProFootballTalk. “I talked to the big man, Andy Reid. I talked to [Patrick Mahomes]. I’m like, ’Look, can we make something happen? Can we make something happen? Can the guaranteed money make sense to me? Can it make sense to my family, please?”

Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, brought up during the broadcast that things changed once the Green Bay Packers traded Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders, and gave him a five-year, $140 million contract extension. Rosenhaus then said he approached Chiefs general manager Brett Veach about doing a similar deal with Hill.

As Hill mentioned in the quote above, he spoke to both Reid and Patrick Mahomes, where he told the head coach that he would stay if he were to receive $25-26 million annually. That obviously did not happen, and the trade to Miami took place.

Once the trade was reported, it was also revealed that Hill would be receiving a four-year, $120 million contract extension with the team. That is $30 million per season.

The Chiefs moved on after trading Hill, as they selected Skyy Moore in the second-round of the NFL Draft and signed Marquez Valdes-Scantling and former Clemson star Justyn Ross. Prior to the trade, the team signed JuJu Smith-Schuster.
