Early SEC win total predictions: Can Alabama, Georgia be perfect?
By John Buhler
SEC win total predictions: What teams must make a New Year’s Six bowl or else?
Regardless of if they are a national title contender or not this season, it will be a disappointing year if they are not among of the 12 teams in the country playing in a New Year’s Six bowl game.
If Will Levis is as good as advertised, Kentucky could have its best season ever
Big Blue Nation should be fired up about this year’s team. If the Wildcats lose at home to Georgia, so what? They will have an opportunity to play in a huge bowl game after winning double-digit games once again. Even if they give the Dawgs a better effort than they did last year in Athens, they are going to overlook Tennessee, and that is going to have them right back in the Citrus Bowl.
Over 8.0 wins: 10-2 (6-2)
Believe it or not, Brian Kelly and his family will be a wagon by season’s end
There is too much talent in Baton Rouge for Brian Kelly not to massacre the incredibly low six-win total for the Bayou Bengals. I may be higher on LSU than Shaquille O’Neal crowd surfing at a Better Than Ezra concert, but this team can win 10 games. The Coach O burden has been lifted. They are losing to Alabama and Texas A&M, but they can beat everyone else on their schedule.
Over 6.0 wins: 10-2 (6-2)
The Alabama loss will cost Jimbo Fisher a College Football Playoff berth … again
In a heavyweight battle between two West Virginia hillbillies rasslin’, the mentor will beat the protege. Jimbo Fisher might have gotten the best of Nick Saban in College Station last year, but Darth Vader of the Evil Empire is out for NIL blood. Their date with the Aggies is circled in crimson red ink. Texas A&M will be a dominant force, but missing out on Atlanta will cost the Aggies dearly.
Over 9.0 wins: 11-1 (7-1)
Despite a Lane Train crash, the Crimson Tide are going to Atlanta and beyond
Is Alabama the best team in the country? Probably, but are they going undefeated this year? Don’t count out it. Only a few teams are capable of beating them, but a perfectly played game by Ole Miss beats a B- game by the Tide. The good news is Alabama probably does not lose a game the rest of the year. They have Bryce Young and Will Anderson on their team, so good luck with that.
Under 11.5 wins: 11-1 (7-1)
Bias aside, who is beating Georgia this season besides Alabama or Ohio State?
Georgia could lose a regular-season game, and it wouldn’t shock me. The problem is the Dawgs have an incredibly soft 12-game slate. If they beat Dan Lanning’s Oregon Ducks as they should, who are they falling to before they get to Atlanta: Kentucky? South Carolina? Yeah, it’s not happening. Though they will lose to Alabama in Atlanta again, the Dawgs should be playoff-bound.
Over 11.5 wins: 12-0 (8-0)
Overall, 10 SEC teams are going bowling, 3-4 are going to a New Year’s Six bowl (depending on how you view LSU when compared to another at-large candidate) and two are in the playoff (of course, it’s Alabama and Georgia). Unfortunately, as many as four programs could be looking for a new head coach this offseason cycle. There is a lot pressure on Harsin and Leach could feel the heat.
Surely, I am SEC Nostradamus and got every over/under projection total right. You’re welcome.
