5) MLB Power Rankings: Houston Astros

The Houston Astros had been making themselves at number four in the MLB Power Rankings for a few weeks. After losing their series to the Marlins, they needed a little bit of discipline. Still one of the better teams in baseball, they appeared vulnerable this week.

If not for the Angels and Mariners imploding, the Astros would have a reason to be concerned. Instead, they can use those losses to the Marlins as a learning experience. The club did not have a particularly active offseason which might just set them up to have a much busier summer to correct anything in need of fixing.

4) MLB Power Rankings: San Diego Padres

The San Diego Padres headed into Sunday only a half game out of the division lead. They had a chance to move up in the MLB Power Rankings and get as high as number three. All they could control is what they do. Unfortunately for them, they lost and can only finish in fourth-place on this week’s MLB Power Rankings.

The Padres are storming forward but failed to take advantage of a possible opening to capture the National League West. Losing a series to the Rockies over the weekend showed their vulnerabilities. How they bounce back will say a lot about how good this team is.

3) MLB Power Rankings: Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers didn’t have a particularly good week. It ended with a sweep against the rival Giants. Only because they have built up a lot of goodwill earlier in the year are they still worthy of a number three spot on the MLB Power Rankings.

This may soon change with the Dodgers losing Walker Buehler to an injury. This team was built to withstand injuries and lock up a playoff spot earlier than everyone else. They have the Padres right behind them and one team in the National League remains ahead of them in the standings and on this list of MLB Power Rankings.

2) MLB Power Rankings: New York Mets

It wasn’t a spectacular week for the New York Mets and yet they remain at No. 2. A tough West Coast road trip ended with mostly favorable results for them. And even with the Braves and Phillies playing catch up in the National League East, their early healthy lead isn’t in danger quite yet.

The Mets are a lot like the other team in New York. They can win one day because of their pitching and bullpen. The next day, they clobber home runs and pile on hits. Their main issue might be that their best players aren’t quite as good as some of the other teams in the league. However, the Mets have few holes to fill and they’re continuing to win even without Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer.

1) MLB Power Rankings: New York Yankees

They aren’t just the kings of The Bronx. The New York Yankees might be the entire Royal Family of Major League Baseball. Yet again, the Yankees come out as the number one team in the MLB Power Rankings. It’s not even all that close of a competition. They are the team to beat this season.

The Yankees continue to win with home runs and some of the best pitching around. Aaron Judge is having a monster year and giving the team a reliable center fielder. As he headlines the team’s success, they continue to get plenty from unexpected stars such as Nestor Cortes and Clay Holmes. This Yankees club is imperfect but because of all of the ways they can win, they remain the top dog in baseball.
