The 2022 US Open heads to The Country Club in Brookline, MA for the first time in over 30 years and we have our US Open picks, best bets and more locked in.

Another major week has arrived and the 2022 U.S. Open figures to be a fantastic addition to the catalog after we got to witness Scottie Scheffler’s coronation at The Masters and then Justin Thomas’ thrilling comeback playoff victory at the PGA Championship. Now, The Country Club in Brookline, MA will be the setting for the 122nd US Open and all of the drama ready to unfold.

The undercurrent of this tournament is it comes the week after the LIV Golf debut and the defectors from the PGA Tour such as Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Reed and, of course, Phil Mickelson will all be in the field at The Country Club. That will be impossible to ignore but, if the RBC Canadian Open was any indication, it will also give added motivation to the favorites who have stayed with the PGA Tour to perform.

Unlike many other US Open venues like Winged Foot or Torrey Pines in the past two years, The Country Club will demand something different. As a Par-70 course that measures some 300-350 yards shorter than its counterparts, this is a track that will demand an all-around game where players must be accurate, must be sharp with irons, and most importantly, must be able to avoid bogeys.

So where does that leave us? It leaves us looking for guys who have succeeded in previous iterations of this major, golfers who have been displaying great all-around form, and golfers who avoid trouble and the big numbers. With that, let’s get into our US Open picks and best bets with a full-blown slate of picks for you to consider.

US Open picks: Top 5, Top 10, Top 20, One and Done selections

Top 5 pick for US Open: Xander Schauffele (+400)

Because he seemingly doesn’t win events that aren’t limited fields or an alternate format (alluding to his win at the Zurich earlier this year), Xander Schauffele gets somewhat of a bad reputation. He shouldn’t at this tournament.

Schauffele has been stellar at the US Open over recent history, reeling off five straight Top 10 finishes in all of his appearances at this major, a run that also includes three Top 5 finishes. That makes perfect sense because, for a test of an all-around game, few pass with flying colors like Schauffele. He’s gaining strokes in every category this season overall and over the last 40 rounds. After a T13 at the PGA Championship, I love for him to keep his form at the US Open and get into the Top 5.

Top 10 pick for US Open: Shane Lowry (+275)

Every time that I’ve bet on Shane Lowry this year, it feels like it hasn’t worked out. But I am nothing if not committed to my process and the numbers. Both of those things say that Lowry is made to thrive at The Country Club this week. Sitting at +275 to finish inside the Top 10, Lowry has gained across the board in Strokes Gained all year and, despite some slip-ups by his standards, he has been consistent in doing so. He’s also proven the ability to thrive in difficult environments such as this, so I love the value on him as a Top 10 play.

Top 20 pick for US Open: Davis Riley (+230)

I’ve been riding Davis Riley plays over the past month and I’m not going to stop here. Over the last 20 rounds of players in the field at The Country Club, Riley ranks third in Strokes Gained: Total behind only Rory McIlroy and Tony Finau. He’s playing exceptionally well in every facet of the game and the results back that up with six straight Top 13 or better finishes. Getting +230 odds for him to finish in the Top 20 this week feels like a misevaluation from oddsmakers and one that I plan to take advantage of yet again.

One and Done pick for US Open: Xander Schauffele

There’s no need to belabor the point about Schauffele. His US Open history combined with his game make him a great fit for this tournament and venue, so I’m fully confident in taking him to really shine and cash for the One and Done selection.

Note: Top 5, Top 10 and Top 20 picks should also be considered best bets, though they’re not included on the next page.
