1. The Braves cannot panic after losing Ozzie Albies at second for two months

Not to say this will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back, but losing Ozzie Albies to a fractured foot sucks. He is not replaceable, but the Braves will to try to replace the best second baseman in baseball anyway. We are talking about a slick glove, great foot speed and elite Silver Slugger swings from both sides of the plate. There will be some regression, but how much so?

One would expect Phil Gosselin to get called up to account for Albies going on IL. Orlando Arcia will get more run in his expanded role as well, but that double-play combination of Albies-to-Swanson and vice versa is going to take a hit. Conversely, it does bring into question if William Contreras can play some second, just to get his bat in the lineup. Travis Demeritte’s glove might help out as well.

Ultimately, injuries are a part of baseball, and these things happen. Although I cannot recall the last time a guy broke his leg swinging in the batter’s box, the Braves have to adjust accordingly. Albies may be one of the most beloved guys on the roster, but this team is too battle-tested and too mentally tough to fall to pieces just because one of the best players got hurt in a freak accident.

The Braves’ lineup now has a vulnerability, but Atlanta is in way better shape than most teams.
