The Klay Thompson doppleganger has been entertaining Warriors fans since he first showed up at a game in 2017. He’s also made his last appearance.

Klay Thompson look-alike, Dawson Gurley, joined the popular culture before Game 5 of the 2017 NBA Finals when social media caught sight of him around the arena and everyone lost their damn minds.

He’s been one of the team’s most famous fans, along with the Dancing Mom, and the team has appeared to be in on the joke for years. But no one is laughing now.

Don’t expect to see Fake Klay Thompson at any future Warriors games

Apparently, Gurley, showed up to Game 5 and breezed right past security and metal detectors and even took part in pre-game warmups before he was found out. This stunt has gotten him a lifetime ban from the Warriors, who also reportedly refused to refund the $10,000 he had spent on tickets for the game.

There’s plenty of blame to go around here. It’s, frankly, pretty ridiculous that Gurley was able to get onto the court without any problems. I mean he looks a bit like Klay Thompson but it’s not like he’s wearing one of those Mission Impossible masks. And this might have seemed like a great way to up his social media clout but it’s also kind of a dangerous stunt that could have had serious real-world consequences.

It was fun while it lasted but it’s probably time to retire this meme and for Gurley to look for something else to build his TikTok following around.
