Dark horse US Open picks for the 122nd championship being played at The Country Club to see which sleepers could pop up big at Brookline.

Because of the vaunted stature that the US Open holds in the place of golf, many fans and bettors alike tend to assume that one of the favorites is going to be hosting the trophy come Father’s Day. And frankly, that’s not a bad assumption. Jon Rahm was among the favorites last year and Bryson DeChambeau was inside the top 10 on the odds board when he was victorious at Winged Foot in 2020.

At the same time, though, there is always the potential for a dark horse to emerge and take the third major championship of the season by storm. And with the way some of the golfers who aren’t at the top of the odds board have been playing this year and recently, that would make even more sense at The Country Club in Brookline.

So as we look at the odds and the sleepers with outright odds at +6000 or higher, these are the dark horse US Open picks who have a real shot to make some noise this week and usurp the favorites.

5. Aaron Wise (+6600)

Veteran fans and bettors of the PGA Tour are more than familiar Aaron Wise, one of the proud members of what many refer to as “Team No Putt”. He’s been a stalwart on the PGA Tour largely due to his elite prowess as a ball-striker but it’s the putter that often betrays him.

Earlier in this season, though, Wise somewhat fell by the wayside simply because his ball-striking wasn’t at the level that we’re accustomed to seeing. Over the past couple of months, however, that’s started to return to form and the results bear that out.

Wise has been gaining 1.47 strokes per round tee-to-green over his last 20 rounds and, even better, has been gaining 0.46 strokes per round on the putting surface over that span as well. The result a T6 at the Mexico Open, T2 at the Memorial and a T23 at the PGA Championship. He’s in terrific form and, at a ball-striker’s course, he’s a live sleeper to keep an eye on.
