Miles Mikolas loses no-hitter on final out: Best tweets, memes, reactions
By Scott Rogust

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Miles Mikolas had the chance to record a no-hitter, but lost it on the final out of the game. Twitter just about lost it when it happened.
On June 14, St. Louis Cardinals fans were almost about to watch history. Miles Mikolas entered the top of the ninth inning with the chance to record the franchise’s 10th no-hitter in history. The last time the Cardinals had one was in 2001 when Bud Smith accomplished the feat.
Mikolas was able to get Michael Perez to ground out and Tucupita Marcano to fly out for the first two outs of the inning. All he had to do was to force out Cal Mitchell to end the game and enter the Cardinals history books. On a 2-2 count, Mitchell hit a deep shot to center field, which flew over the head of Harrison Bader and bounced over the wall for a ground rule double.
One strike away, and Mikolas lost his no-hitter on a ground rule double.

My body just collapsed within itself for Miles Mikolas. He’ll never get back here.

Oooof one strike away. Still an incredible feat for Mikolas.

Any time a no-hitter gets broken up with two outs in the ninth is just painful. St. Louis right-hander Miles Mikolas is done after 129 pitches of excellence against Pittsburgh. Phenomenal performance regardless.

Miles Mikolas is the first Cardinals pitcher to fall 1 out short of a no-hitter since Michael Wacha on September 24, 2013 vs the Nationals.

The last Cardinals no-hitter was thrown by Bud Smith on September 3, 2001. pic.twitter.com/84LnamvZjc
An absolutely brutal way for Mikolas to lose a no-hitter.
Unfortunately for Cardinals fans, this is not the first time they saw a no-hitter disappear with one out remaining in the game. Michael Wacha was an out away from recording a no-hitter on Sept. 24, 2013, per ESPN Stats and Info.
Regardless, it was a strong performance by Mikolas. In 8.2 innings, he struck out six batters and allowed just one unearned run on 129 pitches. Now, Mikolas has a 5-4 record and a 2.62 ERA on the year.
Social media felt for Mikolas after he fell just short of becoming the 10th Cardinals pitcher to throw a no-no.
More. It’s time to make Cardinals hero Tommy Edman an All-Star. light
