LIV Golf’s Phil Mickelson will not win the US Open

Sorry, folks. If it hasn’t happened yet, it’s never going to. The biggest predictor of the future is the past, and Phil Mickelson has never been able to get it done at the US Open. Mickelson has finished second at the US Open six times over his career.

LIV Golf’s biggest acquisition, Mickelson just hasn’t played enough this season to make me believe that he’s going to ascend to the highest level at 51 years old. Of course, Mickelson did unexpectedly win the PGA Championship last year, so who knows?

Mickelson’s last three US Open appearances have not ended well. Lefty finished tied for 62nd last year, missed the cut in 2020, and tied for 52nd in 2019. The last time Mickelson even finished in the Top 25 was in 2013.

Phil Mickelson winning the US Open would be a huge story, especially after spurning the PGA Tour in favor of LIV Golf. I just don’t see it happening. In fact, given his recent performance in the US Open, it’ll be surprising if Mickelson even makes it to the weekend.
