New York Mets stars Mark Canha and Taijuan Walker were active on Twitter promoting the team’s Pride Night scheduled for Friday.

It’s 2022 and still there are those out there who resist things like a Pride Night celebrating LGBTQ+ fans. We sadly confirmed that when the members of the Tampa Bay Rays embarrassingly declined to wear pride-themed hats earlier this year.

Thankfully, other teams in the league are getting it right. Up there with the best are the Mets, who have players getting involved as well.

Left fielder Mark Canha and pitcher Taijuan Walker used their voices on Twitter to encourage fans to attend Friday’s Pride Night.

“How many of my beautiful LGBTQ+ people coming to @Mets pride night tomorrow?!” Canha tweeted with a rainbow of heart emojis.

Walker quote tweeted that message with more encouragement.

“Looking forward to a packed house tomorrow,” Walker wrote.

It shouldn’t take that much to tweet support of Pride Night but given what other teams have done, or not done, it’s noteworthy that Mets players are making that effort.

The great thing about sports is how it brings people from so many different backgrounds. Two people might have nothing else in common, from gender identity to racial background to upbringing to occupation, but mutual affection for the Mets or whatever other team is a beautiful way to bridge the gap. That’s what Pride Nights are all about: Making sure members of the LGBTQ+ community know they are welcome at the ballpark.
