New Texas A&M tailgating park has the most Texas amenity of all time
Texas A&M has the most unusual tailgating elements in college football — a catch and release fishing pond.
Tailgating usually includes an ice-cold beer, some delicious food, and great social environments with fellow fans, but at Texas A&M, you better bring some bait and a fishing pole.
Yes, you heard that right — the Aggies have put a catch and release pond in one of their tailgate spots. Fans and others were so excited about it that the pond went viral on social media, and to be honest, we’re here for it.
Other SEC schools better take note — fishing ponds are the new “in” item.
The pond will be in Aggie Park and is one of the new things the university is adding to this space. Along with new free and paid parking areas, Aggie Park will open on schedule later this summer. The fishing pond isn’t the only fabulous amenity either, as an amphitheater and creamery are also coming.
However, reservations are required, but they can’t be that strict. If someone wants to fish, then I’m sure these country boys will find a way to make that happen. After all, country folks do know how to make friends faster than they do enemies.
Plus, when the national media comes to Aggieland, this area is where they will be. I can see Marty and McGee fishing on Saturday mornings with Jimbo Fisher already.
Texas A&M football tailgating going all-out with catch and release fishing pond
Texas A&M is making tailgating an all-day thing with all of these options. They are redefining what it means to tailgate, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see other schools follow suit.
Clemson is already on a massive lake, and they could easily add fishing to their things to do on game day. Georgia is too crowded and too cool for fishing — fans own lakes and ponds, and they don’t need that on game day. These Dawgs are too worried about winning.
Alabama could, but this seems more like an Auburn activity than a Roll Tide one.
Florida couldn’t do this because gators do exist in Gainesville. Tennessee has areas that also sit right near the water, so maybe the Vols will have fans volunteer their boats and take others fishing.
Texas A&M said hold my beer and let me show you how we can spend millions of dollars to feel more included in the SEC, and hey, I got to give them credit for trying it.
A catch and release pond better only include smaller fish because if there is a monster in there, no one is releasing it.
