Cardinals: Tyler O’Neill suffers concerning injury on the basepaths

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Tyler O’Neill left the team’s June 19 game against the Boston Red Sox after picking up an injury running the basepaths.

The St. Louis Cardinals looked to take the three-game series over the Boston Red Sox with a victory on Sunday, June 19. During the game, however, they may have lost one of their starters to another injury.

In the top of the ninth inning, outfielder Tyler O’Neill hit a double to center field, but pulled up when rounding first base. There was an injury timeout, O’Neill was removed from the game and was replaced by Edmundo Sosa.

It was revealed that O’Neill left the game due to left hamstring tightness.

The severity of O’Neill’s hamstring injury is unknown, so there is no real update regarding on if he will have to miss time. All Cardinals fans can really do is keep an eye on updates.

Boston held on despite a rally by St. Louis in the ninth to win 6-4.

Back on June 7, O’Neill was just activated off of the injured list after dealing with a right shoulder impingement that sidelined him in mid-May. Ever since returning, O’Neill has been solid when stepping inside the batter’s box. In fact, O’Neill was 3-for-4 at the plate on Sunday.

From June 7 until the Father’s Day game in Boston, O’Neill slashed .318/.354/.477 while recording two home runs, eight RBI and 14 hits in 44 at-bats.

O’Neill’s status is worth monitoring, as the Cardinals enter a pivotal four-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers tied for first place in the NL Central.
