#1 – New York Mets OF Dominic Smith

Another New York outfielder that is surely headed for a change of scenery, Dominic Smith has yet to break out at the big league level, which has led to the Mets demoting him multiple times and openly showing the industry that they don’t see him as a long-term fit for the club.

Smith is yet another left-handed outfield option for the Jays who can play left field and first base. The Jays’ best option for a lefty would be in the outfield, as every position in the infield is spoken for by above-average players. Smith, like Benintendi and Gallo before him, could easily slot into left field for Toronto and give them a big left-handed bat.

In his six-year major league career, Smith has 428 games as a Met and has 46 home runs and 176 RBI. He strikes out a ton and doesn’t draw many walks, but he looked strong at the plate as recently as 2019 and 2020, in which he hit .283 and .316 respectively.

Smith was also an absolute stud while ascending through the Mets’ minor league system, so the potential is definitely there. He, like Gallo, is the perfect change of scenery candidate and would fit the Blue Jays’ plan and need for a lefty bat well.
