Gronk could unretire once again ‘if Tom Brady calls him’ during the 2022 season

According to Rob Gronkowski’s agent Drew Rosenhaus, the legendary tight end could come out of retirement “if Tom Brady calls him during the season.”

In an alternate universe, Rob Gronkowski almost convinced Tom Brady to join him in Florida in retirement back in 2019. Almost.

T-Mobile had fun envisioning that universe where a dropped call could have changed the course of Super Bowl history, but according to rumors surrounding Gronk’s second retirement from the NFL, some say he might pull a Brady — or another Gronk — by unretiring once more.

Per Gronkowski’s agent Drew Rosenhaus, the incomparable tight end might toy with a return if, and only if, Brady picks up the phone mid-season.

Clearly, Brady has his phone at the ready as Bucs fans hope that one GOAT can convince another to unretire in 2022.

Eagles reporter Howard Eskin reported news that offers a little more context to what Rosenhaus declared. Eskin reported that someone close to Gronk disclosed that the 33-year-old tight end didn’t “want training camp grind with Tampa.”

“He WILL be back,” Eskin insisted.

Aside from Brady and Gronk, there are other notable NFL players who have come out of retirement to rejoin their team in meaningful moments. Beloved Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch came in clutch late in the 2019 season after the Seahawks had lost three running backs on their roster. While Lynch was primarily used at the goal line for short rushes, he made four key touchdowns at the end of the Seahawks’ season, which also made a difference regarding Lynch’s own place in NFL history. After his three postseason touchdowns, Lynch moved into fourth place on the all-time postseason rushing touchdown list.

Gronkowski is already the greatest tight end in NFL history, his NFL 100 membership being only one distinction that illustrates his game-changing performance on the field. But if Gronk does come back, he could potentially move beyond Tony Gonzalez and Antonio Gates with the most touchdowns by a tight end in NFL history.
