3 Red Sox trade rumors they should turn into reality

2. Red Sox trade rumors to turn into reality: David Bednar
From Bell’s current team to his former club, we find an answer for the Boston bullpen on the Pittsburgh Pirates. It’s none other than closer David Bednar who the Red Sox should have on their radar.
Bednar is someone the average and even above-average fan wasn’t familiar with until very recently. He has established himself as one of the top young(er) closers in the game, consistently finishing off opponents for Pittsburgh.
There are a couple of troubling factors at play when it comes to a Bednar trade. One is that the Pirates don’t have any major need to actually trade Bednar just yet. He isn’t pricy on the payroll and has a couple of years of control left. In short: he’s going to cost quite a bit.
The Red Sox could be bidders but so could everyone else in baseball. Upgrading the bullpen is a goal of every trade deadline buyer. There isn’t a team out there hoping to win the 2022 World Series that would pass on Bednar. All of the power is with the Pirates.
The Boston bullpen has to find a solution for the ninth inning. Matt Barnes, Matt Strahm, Tanner Houck, and others have tried out the role. Some have failed. With others, the jury is still out. Bednar would be someone to ride into the postseason and even give the Red Sox someone they can trust in the role going forward.
