3 LIV golfers who could actually win The Open Championship

Those golfers who’ve joined LIV Golf will be able to participate in The Open Championship, but which three could actually win the tournament?
Names continue to be added by the day, or so it seems. The list of golfers who’ve ditched the PGA Tour in favor of the LIV Golf Invitational Series has seen an increase since the upstart’s first tournament was played in London.
Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, and Patrick Reed have joined the likes of Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson by signing on to play for Greg Norman’s new rival to the PGA Tour.
The R&A, the governing body for the upcoming Open Championship (British Open) at St. Andrew’s, has recently decided that those LIV Golf professionals who’ve qualified for this year’s tournament will be able to participate in next month’s final major. But which three LIV Golf participants are most likely to hoist The Open Championship trophy?
1. LIV Golf’s Louis Oosthuizen could win The Open Championship.
If there’s one golfer that I’d never bet against in The Open Championship, it’s Louis Oosthuizen. The South African has always done well overseas in this tournament, and I don’t expect the 2022 version to be any different.
The last time The Open Championship was played at St. Andrew’s back in 2015, it took a four-hole playoff between Oosthuizen, Marc Leishman, and eventual champion Zach Johnson to decide who would take home the coveted trophy.
Every one of Oosthuizen’s rounds at St. Andrews that week were under par. Oosthuizen also has five Top 20 finishes at The Open Championship over the years, including winning the event in 2010.
Louis Oosthuizen finished in third-place at last year’s British Open and has 10 total Top 10 finishes at major championships throughout his career. That includes a second-place finish at each major. Oosthuizen has as good a chance as any player on the LIV Golf Invitational Series to win the 150th Open Championship.
