Georgia football: 3 Arch Manning backup plans to keep the Bulldogs contending
Georgia football lost the battle for five-star quarterback Arch Manning but they can still win the ultimate prize with a solid backup plan.
The Bulldogs put a ton of effort into getting Arch Manning. So when he committed to Texas on Thursday it was a definite disappointment.
It’s okay Georgia fans. Take a moment to let loose your sadness then go grab your championship gear and take comfort in it for the rest of the day.
The fact is, the Bulldogs have other options to make up for losing out on Manning.
3 Arch Manning backup plans for Georgia football
Donte Moore or Dylan Lonergan
There are two Top 100 quarterbacks left uncommitted in the class 2023: five-star Dante Moore out of Detroit and four-star Dylan Lonergan out of Snellville, Georgia.
The Bulldogs have offers out for both of them but obviously, they have been putting all their attention into Manning, leaving other schools to get the inside track on those two.
Now that Manning is out of the picture, Georgia should put the fullcourt press on Moore and, particularly, Lonergan. The latter is expected to commit to South Carolina on July 5 but things could change quickly if he’s given the option to stay home.
Julian Sayin or Jadyn Davis or DJ Lagway
Realistically, it may be too late to land one of the top QBs in the class of 2023. The good news is the Bulldogs are in a good spot with their quarterback room including potential-filled players like Carson Beck, Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton for 2023.
So focusing fully on the class of 2024 might be the best play. Georgia has already offered five-star passers Julian Sayin from California, Jadyn Davis from North Carolina and DJ Lagway from Texas. Davis and Lagway have unofficially visited
Monitor the transfer portal
The transfer portal is unpredictable, so it’s impossible to name names at this point. However, you can trust there will be several coveted quarterbacks who hit the portal at some stage over the next year.
If Georgia really needs a QB, they can turn to a transfer. It didn’t work perfectly with JT Daniels but that move can be replicated with more fruitful results.
