Freddie Freeman’s return to Atlanta with the Dodgers might have been bittersweet for Braves fans but they gave him a hero’s welcome anyway.

Anyone who thought there was a chance that Braves fans would boo Freddie Freeman when he came back to play at Truist Park as a Dodger was sorely mistaken.

Fans in Atlanta have given Freeman the welcome he deserved this weekend, including an emotional response to him receiving his World Series ring.

The sentiment didn’t die down at all as the Braves and Dodgers wrapped up the three-game series on Sunday.

Braves fans gave Freddie Freeman another standing ovation

When Freeman came to the plate in the first inning, he got his third standing ovation in three games from the Braves faithful.

Freeman leaving Atlanta for Los Angeles definitely hurt. However, fans clearly recognize the incredible run he had with them, especially in delivering a World Series title in 2021. The fact that the organization may not have done everything in their power to keep him and that he went home to play for the Dodgers may take some of the sting out too.

It’s clear there are no hard feelings on either end, and that’s heartwarming to see in the world of sports where breakups can ruin legacies.

Freeman went 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored on Friday. He was held to 1-for-4 with three strikeouts on Saturday.

The Braves drafted Freeman in 2007 and he made his MLB debut in 2010 with the organization. He went on to five All-Star selections, three Silver Sluggers, a Gold Glove, an MVP and a World Series victory.

This year with the Dodgers he’s batting .303/.387/.489 with eight home runs, 45 RBI and six stolen bases.
