The Atlanta Hawks are reportedly close on acquiring Dejounte Murray from the San Antonio Spurs.

The Atlanta Hawks made it to the playoffs as the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference, but were eliminated in the first round by the Miami Heat. With the East only getting tougher, the Hawks are reportedly on the verge of getting a big-time player to pair alongside star Trae Young.

According to WSB’s Zach Klein, the Hawks are “on the verge” of acquiring Dejounte Murray in a trade with the San Antonio Spurs.

For Atlanta fans scared that the deal could include John Collins, who has been the subject of trade rumors, Klein notes that it does not look like he will be part of the deal. Rather, it would be Danilo Gallinari and multiple first-round picks going to San Antonio.

Murray has been the subject of trade rumors throughout this offseason, and he has had some fun with the speculation on Twitter. We wonder what his reaction will be to this latest report?

Through 68 games this past season, Murray averaged 21.1 points, 9.2 assists, and 8.3 rebounds while shooting 46.2 percent from the field, all of which were career-highs. His 2.0 steals per game were not just the highest of his career, but it was the best average in the entire league during the 2021-22 campaign.

Murray is about to enter the third season of his four-year, $64 million contract signed with the Spurs.

If a trade is to go through with Murray landing in Atlanta, it would create quite the pair as he played alongside Young. Per StatMuse, both Murray and Young are two of three players this past season to average over 20.0 points and 9.0 assists per game this past season. The only other player to do so was James Harden of the Philadelphia 76ers.

Hawks fans are no doubt going to be refreshing their social media feeds to see if a Murray trade comes to fruition.
